Complacence

It’s okay to be happy; it’s fine to be satisfied. By definition, it might be said (or maybe it wouldn’t be, but let me say it!) that those two states — happiness and satisfaction — are good states of being. And good is, well, to be desired, right?

But there is a line to be drawn! We should be happy and satisfied, but never let us become complacent! Always strive for better, always seek self-improvement. That, then, leads to the question of, what is better? How would you define self-improvement?

At this point, a person might be subject to letting his words become his masters. Words are to be used, not to use you. So never mind splitting hairs; just understand that my ego tells me that it is wrong to not strive to be better, but that it is good to be happy.
